Understanding and preserving biodiversity constitutes one of the major scientific and societal challenges of the 21st century. Historically founded on naturalistic observation, ecology now relies on theoretical and quantitative approaches which, over the past few decades, have made it possible to formalize the complexity of ecological systems within solid conceptual and mathematical frameworks.
On April 9 and 10, 2026, this conference will bring together researchers from around the world in Montpellier to share the most recent advances in biodiversity theory.
The event is part of the “Tour de France” of the French Society for Ecology and Evolution (SFE²), a series of scientific events organized each month of 2026 in a different city. The April stop in Montpellier will be dedicated to biodiversity theory.
