My research activities focus on the macroevolution of chondrichthyans (sharks and rays). I am mainly interested in understanding the evolutionary mechanisms underpinning the current biodiversity. By using phylogenetic comparative methods and the fossil record, I aim to decipher the role of biotic and abiotic factors in speciation and extinction dynamics in sharks and rays over the last 250 million years. I am also interested in molecular evolution and, to a greater extent, in phylogeny reconstruction methods.
