I work in the collections section. My job is to move part of the paleontological collections. Within these collections, each specimen is the fruit of a particular excavation or collection, preparation and maintenance effort. A move is a major operation, involving the movement and storage of hundreds of thousands of specimens. It is therefore important to ensure that each stage of the process runs smoothly.
On a day-to-day basis, this means inventorying, collating, reconditioning and taking care of a wide variety of specimens – vertebrates, plants and invertebrates, osteological specimens and fossils, originals and replicas – for research, educational and/or historical collections.
