My activity

I am working on the ERC GAIA and ERC ORION projects, which study the evolution of the Papilionidae family by linking micro- and macroevolution. I perform DNA extractions for the preparation of genomic libraries by developing a gene capture approach. I extract and sequence long DNA fragments to obtain reference genomes. I also perform RNA extractions from caterpillars and plants for transcriptomic studies. At the same time, I manage the Papilionidae collection, specimen preparation and Papilio machaon breeding. I identify butterflies on iNaturalist to study species distributions and understand geographical evolution in relation to the speciation process. I am developing a multispectral imaging system to take photos of butterflies in multiple light spectra in order to study the phenotypic evolution of the family. I am also responsible for sampling missions abroad.
