My activity

My research focuses primarily on describing ant biodiversity in relation to the major evolutionary constraints that have shaped the group’s current diversity: diet, abiotic environments, and reproductive systems. For my thesis, I am focusing on the ant tribe Stenammini, which comprises roughly 500 species distributed worldwide. This tribe serves as an ideal model for my research, as it exhibits complex reproductive systems such as social hybridogenesis, but also multiple instances of dietary convergence toward granivory, making these ants key players in plant dispersal across many ecosystems. However, studying this tribe is complicated by a chaotic taxonomy, even at the genus level. I therefore address these various aspects by integrating my expertise in traditional taxonomic with whole-genome data through phylogeographic and evolutionary genomic analyses.
