Recent theoretical work suggests that this reproductive system could result from the rapid fixation of selfish caste-biased genes that force larvae development into queens (Weyna et al. 2021). My work involves studying the role of gene flow and natural selection in the evolution of social hybridogenesis in harvester ants of the genus Messor. I combine various population genomics approaches to infer gene flow, phylogeography, and the presence of selective sweeps. My work include field sampling, genome sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis of genetic data.
</oembed>
