My PhD project aims to experimentally test the key preditions of sexual selection theory in plants, particularly if sexual selection in plants is condition dependent and therefore improves plant fitness. To test these predictions we use populations of Brassica rapa that have evolved in experimental evolution conditions with or without sexual selection. From these populations we test how the purging of deletirous mutations varied between regimes by measuring fitness related traits of offspring from inbreeding crosses; test how plants from either regime respond to environmental stress; test the genetic correlation and genetic variability of sexual selection components and fitness components; and lastly do a meta-analysis to quantify the strength of sexual selection across species and test for angiosperm-wide associations with demographical trends and plant traits.</description></oembed>
